Why choose MINT™ PDO threads?

  • MINT™ are the premium brand of PDO threads available.
  • PDO threads are brilliant for lifting, tightening sagging skin and for giving a rejuvenating appearance.
  • PDO threads work by mechanically lifting the tissue to stitch it into a lifted position
  • This treatment also stimulates your own natural collagen production, improving skin elasticity, texture, fine lines and volume for lasting rejuvenation.

What areas can be treated?

PDO threading is commonly used to treat the brow, jawline, neck and arms.

The PDO thread lift repositions the skin tissue, providing a natural lift and tightening.

This treatment is ideal for facial jowl as well as for sagging skin on your neck or arms.

Treatment FAQs

What are PDO threads?

PDO threads are made of Polydioxanone — a clinically proven material already used in surgical sutures. It’s a choice of material for a thread facelift as it naturally and safely breaks down and dissolves in the body.

Threads are dissolvable stitches that promote collagen and elastin production. PDO threads have etched or coned structures that enable it to hook into and lift the tissue beneath the skin. The material from which the thread is made then stimulates collagen production in the skin.

PDO threading operates in two ways: Firstly, it mechanically lifts the skin, instantly providing a lifted appearance to the face, acting as a non-surgical facelift. Secondly, over the following months, the PDO threads stimulate the body's collagen production, resulting in a smooth, naturally lifted appearance.

At what age should I have a PDO threads treatment?

Patients are typically aged between 45 to 65 years. The average age of a thread lift client at Dr Leah Clinic in our most recent audit was 51.

Does PDO threading hurt?

No – before the pdo threading procedure begins, your Dr Leah clinician will inject a local anaesthetic to numb the treatment area and prevent pain.

Can I combine my PDO threads with another treatment?

Yes, a lot of PDO thread lift patients will benefit from combination treatment. These can include fat dissolving ahead of treatment, Morpheus8 or Ultherapy for additional skin tightening or small amounts of dermal filler to replace volume loss or bone changes which occur with age.

Dr Leah clinic specialise in combining a PDO thread lift with other treatments to achieve the best and most natural looking results for our clients. It is this combination treatment approach which saw us awarded “Best non-surgical transformation” result in the Safety in Beauty awards 2023.

What is the difference between a Silhouette Soft thread lift and PDO threads?

They are different types of thread material with Silhouette Soft being the premium thread in the PLLA threadlift material range and the MINT thread lift being the premium thread in the PDO threadlift material range.

PDO threads tend to give a stronger lift but produce a different type of collagen to Silhouette Soft (type of collagen from Silhouette soft is regarded as better). They tend to give more plumping/rejuvenation. PLLA threads (Silhouette Soft threads) produce a more subtle lifting result but create type 1 collagen which gives a better long term ageing prevention benefit and produce less plumping than PDO threads.

PDO MINT threads tend to be better for neck than Silhouette soft threads .

The benefit of attending a threads centre such as Dr Leah Clinics is that we offer both types of threads as well as a range of alternative treatments and our doctors are experienced in all types of non surgical lifting so can advise which is best for you.

Which Dr Leah clinics provide the PDO thread lift treatment?

PDO thread lift treatments are performed at either our Baker Street clinic or our Loughton clinic.

How long will my PDO thread lift results last?

6 to 8 months, at which point the treatment can be repeated.

What should I do after my PDO thread lift treatment?

At your consultation with Dr Leah Clinic your doctor will discuss in depth the aftercare with PDO Threading which you will have to follow after your procedure.

Any movement in the treated areas will decrease the overall results of the PDO thread lift and so it is important to avoid exercise for 7-14 days aside from gentle walks. You will also need to sleep on your back for 5 nights and you are likely to have obvious marks on the face for around 5 days after the treatment so we advise you may want to avoid social activities during this period.

What are the side effects of a PDO thread lift?

Puckering and swelling are common after thread lift and typically last 3-21 days.

Bruising can also occur in some cases and is seen more commonly with Silhouette Soft threads than with Mint PDO Threads.

Swelling is seen more commonly with MINT PDO thread lift than silhouette Soft threads - At Dr Leah Clinic if you are having PDO threading we can offer lymph drainage massage post-procedure to assist with any swelling that may occur after treatment.

Is a PDO thread lift suitable for me?

In order to ascertain this you will book a "thread lift consultation" with one of our thread lift doctors. The area you wish to treat will be assessed and examined and you will be advised if a thread lift is a suitable treatment for you and what type of treatment results you can expect. Any alternative treatments or combined treatments (which are often required) will be discussed. You will be given before and after treatment care advice to prepare you for treatment if you do wish to go ahead.

What can I expect after a body PDO thread lift?

Depending on the area treated the downtime varies; with neck and arms normally very little recovery time required and most clients feel the arms and neck look good several days after treatment with some mild bruising only.

What is the recovery time from a PDO thread lift?

The face will normally feel very tight immediately after treatment and this can cause some discomfort when eating for example for the first 24 hours. Pain-killers are normally required after MINT threads for 48 hours. You can expect the area treated to be tender for several weeks after treatment..

Recovery from the point of view of ‘looking like you have had a thread lift’ with some puckering of the skin, and swelling normally lasts for 7-10 days. Most of our clients return to work and social events after 1 week. .

Full recovery depends on the number of threads you require and your propensity for swelling - meaning full recovery can take up to 6 weeks.

Is recovery different for PDO threads than a Silhouette Soft thread lift?

The difference between the recovery from Silhouette soft threads tends to be that the insertion points.

With Silhouette Soft Threads lift they are mid-cheek so you have indent dimples for the recovery period which are difficult to hide .for the 7-10 days down time,

Generally, there is very little pain and less swelling than with mint threads, bruising is more common with silhouette soft threads than with MINT threads (except mint mono’s which do tend to bruise on the neck).

With Mint threads the insertion points are at the hairline so there are no insertion marks in the mid face which may make recovery from a MINT thread lift easier to conceal than from a silhouette soft lift. Recovery from MINT threads tends to be more related to swelling, discomfort and puckering.

Can PDO threads lift the jowls?

Yes, PDO threading is effective in lifting jowls and addressing sagging in the lower face. The threads can be strategically placed to target the jowls, providing a noticeable improvement in jawline definition and overall facial contour.

PDO threads can be customised to each patient's unique needs. Your practitioner will assess your facial structure and create a treatment plan tailored to lift and rejuvenate the jowl area. Many patients are delighted with the results, as PDO thread lifts offer a non-surgical alternative to facelift surgery for jowl correction. As well as jowls, a PDO thread lift can lift all areas of the face that are beginning to sag, such as drooping eyelids or cheeks.
