We highly recommend using a medical grade SPF 50 following your treatment.

Here’s what our clients have to say…
I have a red skin hand some small veins on my nose and cheeks, which got worse with age and became more difficult to hide under makeup. I have completed my course of 3 laser treatments at Dr Leah Clinic and I am delighted with the result, my skin looks so much better and the overall condition of my skin looks younger too! I found my first sess...

Rosacea and broken capillaries laser treatment FAQ

What should I do before my laser for redness / laser for rosacea / laser for facial thread veins treatment?

    • Clients on retinol products, glycolic acid or other AHA containing products or hydroquinone containing products should stop them 3 days before having laser.

    • Avoid tanning, including fake tan, for 4 weeks pre and post treatment.

What can I expect during and after laser treatment for rosacea?

During treatment, some patients may feel discomfort and we advise clients to take 2 paracetamol 30 minutes before their appointment.

Depending on your skin type (and the lesion being treated), some redness and swelling may be visible, but this will usually subside around 48 hours after treatment.

Lesions may appear darker around 5 – 7 days later.

What is the aftercare laser treatment for rosacea / laser treatment for redness / laser treatment for thread veins?

    • Immediately after treatment, there may be redness and swelling at the treatment area (this can feel like mild sunburn).

    • The application of a cool pack during the first few hours after treatment will reduce any discomfort.

    • The application of sudocreme is recommended and can be done at home that evening.

    • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation or darker pigmentation. SPF 50 sunscreen is a MUST.

    • Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin as this may darken any areas of pigmentation.

    • Avoid hot baths, exercise and heat treatments, and treat the skin gently – as if you had sunburn – for the first 24 hours.

How many laser for rosacea treatments will I need and are results permanent?

You will need a minimum of 3 treatments and can have a maximum of 6 within 12 months.

The average client will have 3 treatments initially to remove the collective redness. You will then have a top-up, one off treatment every 9 months to remove any new veins that are created.

Although the course of 3 lasers will remove existing veins which have accumulated, you may have a skin type which creates new veins even after laser. In this instance you will need a one off treatment every 9 months to maintain your results by removing any new veins you have created.

Skincare is important to reduce the red appearance of skin and sustain your result and there is an Obagi skincare regime which we can put you on to work well alongside your laser and optimise and maintain your results.

How does laser treatment for thread veins / laser treatment for facial redness / laser treatment for rosacea work?

By exposing a vascular lesion to short pulses of visible light, the temperature in the highly concentrated area of haemoglobin can be raised sharply, enough to damage the vessel wall and shatter. The vessels are then absorbed by the body, making them less visible.

Can I go on sunshine holiday during my laser for redness treatment?

Yes, but you need to wear factor 50 SPF on your face and wear a hat in the sun. You also need to wait for 4 weeks after returning from holiday before having your next session if you get any suntan on your face while away.

Who is laser treatment for redness not suitable for?

    • Not suitable for Asian or black skins as will cause pigmentation. Clients with a very dry and sensitive skin may need to use products to fortify the skin barrier prior to treatment – your aesthetic skin therapist will be able to advise you on this on the day of your consultation and test patch.

    • Any clients who have a reaction to the test patch (burn, blister or pigmentation) will not be able to have this treatment.

    • Cannot be performed on anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

    • Cannot be performed on anyone who has had a suntan on the skin within 4 weeks before treatment.

    • Cannot be performed on anyone on photosensitising medication such as lymecycline or doxycycline.

    • Not suitable if you have active acne – we will need to prescribe you skincare to treat your breakouts first.

    • Clients on retinol products, glycolic acid or other AHA containing products or hydroquinone containing products should stop them 3 days before having laser.
