How many Dermapen treatments will I need?

For optimum results, a course of 3 – 6 treatments are recommended depending on your skin concerns:
• General skin rejuvenation / large pore treatment – 3 treatments recommended
• Remove fine lines and wrinkles – 6 treatments recommended
• Acne scar treatment or surgical scars – 6 treatments recommended
• Loose skin – 6 to 9 treatments recommended
How long does one treatment take?
The Dermapen treatment session itself lasts for around 20 minutes – although this may vary depending on which part of your body we treat. For example, a stomach treatment will take more time than a facial rejuvenation treatment.
How long do the results last?
Rejuvenating results last for approximately 12 months*. If Dermapen is used to treat scars or stretch marks, the improvements are permanent*.
Is Dermapen safe for everyone?
This microneedling treatment is not suitable for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have keloid scarring or are immunocompromised with delayed wound healing.
Will I need any time off work?
The Dermapen treatment comes with a very minimal recovery period. You should be able to resume your daily routine almost immediately or within a few hours- although it depends on what depth of Dermapen treatment you have. You may notice some redness or mild swelling, but this should subside within the first 24 hours*.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare, and when they do occur, they seldom last for more than 48 hours. Patients commonly notice some redness post-procedure (similar to sunburn), but this should subside in a short time. Dermapen may trigger herpes simplex in clients who suffer from cold sores; other adverse effects can include scarring and infection.
Is skin preparation required?
No, most clients are fine to go ahead with treatment on the day of their appointment without needing to prepare the skin in advance, we do request that clients stop using active products (e.g. those containing retinol, AHA’s or hydroquinone) 3 days before their appointment.
Are aftercare products required?
Yes, you should apply obagi hydrate medical moisturiser and a heliocare medical SPF to your face for at least 14 days following your treatment. You will be able to purchase them in our clinic on the day of your treatment or ahead of treatment via our online shop.

Which clinics provide the treatment?
Dr Leah Clinic offers the Dermapen London treatment combined with the chemical peel London at our Moorgate and Baker street Clinics.
We also offer a Dermapen Essex and chemical peel Essex treatment at our Loughton clinic.
What is the best acne scar treatment?
Dermapen microneedling for acne scars is a well established treatment, it uses tiny needles to gently puncture the skin, causing a series of traumatic punctures. The skin responds to this by naturally producing collagen and elastin to repair itself. This collagen and elastin works to create new smooth skin, plumping out the pitted indentations caused by acne scars.
What is the best large pore treatment?
Large pores are a common and difficult to treat problem, a combination of medical skin care products such as Obagi Retinol 1% and in clinic treatments such as microneedling have been proven to reduce the appearance of large pores.
What is the best treatment for loose stomach skin?
Dermapen microneedling can improve the appearance of loose skin on stomach, usually 6 sessions are required for good results. At Dr Leah Clinic this treatment is combined with skin tightening in the mummy tummy makeover.
What is the treatment process for Dermapen treatment?
On the day of your Dermapen treatment, your aesthetic skin therapist will assess your skin and advise how many Dermapen treatment sessions will be necessary to achieve your skin goals (either 3 or 6 sessions).
Your treatment journey will begin by booking your Dermapen treatment at your nearest Dr Leah clinic. If you mention Dermapen London or Dermapen Essex on the booking form, we can schedule you at our relevant clinic. On the day of your appointment if you are a new client you should arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time to complete a medical questionnaire.
Your Dr Leah practitioner will then take you into the treatment room and perform a cleanse of your face, they will be able to assess your skin type and treatment goals and determine which depth of Dermapen treatment you need on each area of your face. The depth of the needle punctures can be manually changed by the practitioner so different depths of treatment can be applied to different areas of the face depending on your concern. For example, if you are looking for an acne scar treatment on your cheeks your practitioner will suggest doing a deeper treatment over that area of your face. Your practitioner will also be able to tell you how many Dermapen sessions you are going to require to achieve your goals (3,6,9 treatments) and if or not you will need an ÃœBER Pro chemical peel with your micro needling facial.
If you are happy to go ahead with treatment, consent and photography will be taken (This photography is confidential and is for our records and medico-legal requirements only)
When you’re ready to begin treatment, the Dermapen will be applied over your skin, puncturing it with 1300 channels into the skin every second. It will feel uncomfortable (like a scratching feeling) but not painful. If you are concerned about pain then please take simple painkillers 30 minutes before your appointment. The actual needling itself takes between 10-15 minutes. The needling may take longer if being used for larger areas such as to treat loose stomach skin.
A cocktail of serums is then chosen to further enhance the results of your treatment (depending on your skincare needs)
If you wish to give a more dramatic result our chemical peel (Mandelic Acid Peel) can be applied to your skin immediately after the micro-needling facial, when your skin channels are open, to give an enhanced skin result.
SPF will then be applied to protect your skin and aftercare advice will be discussed. Your aesthetic therapist will advise you how soon you should have your next Dermapen (between 3-6 weeks) and will schedule this for you.
